We have escaped from locked rooms, cruised the great lakes, ridden the iron horse through the Credit Valley, walked the tight ropes in Blue Mountain, attended the horse races at Mohawk Raceway and taken in a show at Stage West, among numerous other events.

  • Why choose OMH for your articling period?

    • Practical experience & mentorship

      Unlike some larger firms, OMH provides very practical experience in the practice of law. You will do much more at this firm than just prepare research memoranda. Students are regularly provided with the opportunity to attend court and to work on a range of files under a supervising lawyer, with direct client contact.

      At OMH, we have a well-established open-door policy for our students and each other. We find that this policy allows each articling student to engage all the lawyers here and develop a mentor relationship naturally, which helps to ensure that the student gets as much support as necessary.

      The Town of Oakville is a dynamic, growing community with ample opportunity for business development. On the personal side, it also happens to be a wonderful place to live and work. Deciding to article in Oakville is a positive lifestyle choice, and many of the lawyers in our firm live in Oakville or other municipalities in the Region of Halton. Oakville may be the place for you if you find yourself “turned off” by the thought of long commutes and the crowded downtown Toronto environment.

      We invest in our students

      Many of the lawyers at OMH began their legal careers with the firm through our articling program. We believe that this is the best way to develop and expand our firm. Approximately half the lawyers at OMH are former articling students of the firm. That means we are committed to helping you grow and develop your skills, focusing on your long-term growth and career trajectory at every step. 

  • How to Apply

    • The deadline to apply for an articling student position falls at the beginning of May each year. Please be advised that the application deadline has not yet been set for the 2025-2026 term. Please send your application to the attention of Orie Niedzviecki. Your application should include a cover letter, resume, law school and undergraduate transcripts, and reference letters.

  • Real Estate Lawyer (Contract)

    • O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP is a sixteen-lawyer full service law firm, located in central Oakville, Ontario. The firm has a loyal client base and deep roots in the community. Commitment to client service, excellent value and our strong involvement in our community have consistently made us Oakville’s and Halton’s law firm of choice.

      In order to fully meet the needs of our clients, we are seeking to add a Real Estate lawyer on an initial 1-year contract basis with an opportunity to become a full-time associate and develop a successful real estate law practice in a wonderful community.

      The legal work would be primarily in the area of residential real estate, but may include commercial real estate, leasing, and land development, serving the real estate needs of individuals and small, medium and large privately-owned businesses and organizations. Responsibilities would include:

      • Completing purchase, sale and financing transactions
      • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various real estate contracts and agreements including, without limitation, agreements of purchase and sale, leases and licences
      • Supervising and overseeing law clerks on the handling of real estate transactions, including the ability to explain real estate processes and procedures to clients

      The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in real estate law as a lawyer. Candidates should be personable, motivated, independent, team oriented and have strong client relationship skills.

      Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and ability.
