The Town of Oakville completed the Speers Road Class Environmental Assessment Study some time ago with the aim of improving Speers Road between Bronte Road and Kerr Street. The study outlined a number of improvements which are now currently being implemented. To accommodate these improvements, the Town is in the process of attempting to purchase parcels of land from abutting property owners, failing which expropriation proceedings will presumably be commenced. It is important to make sure your rights are protected if your property or business is being affected by this project.
Along with these improvements, the Town has also launched the Speers Road Corridor Study. This is a part of the Town’s Official Plan review. The purpose of this study is to determine the long-term land use and intensification opportunities along Speers Road. Currently, the Town has been collecting information to inform the study and the Town anticipates a public consultation process in the spring 2017. It is important to participate in this public consultation process, as the changes that my result from this Study, could have very significant impacts on Speers Road property owners.
